The Carolina Charter Corporation

Our mission: The Carolina Charter Corporation raises funds to support identification, collection, preservation, dissemination, and publication of original records pertaining to the colonial and revolutionary periods in North Carolina.

Private citizens interested in North Carolina’s colonial history founded the Carolina Charter Corporation in 1963 to raise money to support the celebrations of the Tercentenary of the Carolina Charter, which established the Proprietary Colony of Carolina. The Corporation had funds remaining after the celebrations were completed, and members decided to use them to support research into North Carolina’s colonial and revolutionary history.

Since then, the Corporation has aided the North Carolina Office of Archives and History in a variety of ways. Most noteworthy are its support of the State Archives’ Overseas Copying Program and the Colonial Records Project.

The Carolina Charter Corporation is a 501(c)(3) corporation incorporated under the laws of the State of North Carolina. Donations made to the Corporation in support of its mission may be tax deductible.
